The Challenger demonstrated and proved its combat worth through present Gulf Conflict. And painting the tank with an average sand color, numerous modifications for wilderness operations had been achieved, including a far greater cooling system; better atmosphere cleansers; a strengthened transmission; extra side skirts from Chobham armor for extra security, plus bolt-on Reactive armor put on leading area; an additional 200 liters of gas wound up being carried in outside tanks attached to a corner of tan, which significantly stretched its range; additional outside stowage containers; and usage of low or zero maintenance batteries.
Despite operations into the harsh wilderness environment, the Challengers maintained an excellent "in solution" and availability figure that surpassed 90per cent. This success, alongside its accurate and hefty firepower, pointed toward Challenger as being one of the better main battle tanks utilized through Conflict.
