Development of the Land-wasser-schlepper (Land-Water-Tractor) started in 1936, although the first 7 automobiles was finished in July of 1940. An additional 14 was in reality developed by March of 1941. It was created by Rheinmetall-Borsig as an amphibious vehicle to be used by engineers but it really lacked space for storage and loading/unloading access. To overcome this problem, unique 10 and 20 ton amphibious trailers have been made. It carried less than six men team and 20 people. Another problem completed up being it was unarmored and might even perhaps not run effectively within the combat area. LWS saw solution in Russia and North Africa .
