The next generation premiered in 1983. The separate five-door hatchback and wagon models was indeed merged into a four-door "shuttle wagon" or "wagovan" frequently described colloquially as a "breadbox" because appearance, called the Honda Civic Shuttle. An extra two-seat coupe style—labeled CRX—was introduced, noted the compact measurements and lightweight. The following generation Civic saw the development of the long term four-cylinder D show motor including a new 1.5 L (91.5 cu in) CVCC engine.
