Operational Role of I-16 and I-58

During the Pearl Harbor operation Japan deployed a network of around 20 submarines to screen and support surface forces. Fleet boats like I-16 and I-58 also carried Ko-hyoteki midget submarines meant for attacks inside the harbour, but those midget crews did not return.
