This unique item should commemorate the production of Tamiya's 100th 1/12 scale bike model. Increasing the significance of occasion, we now have chosen to re-release our initial ever 1/12 scale bicycle model, the Yamaha YZR500 Grand Prix Racer.
Long considered among the many premiere bike manufacturers on the planet, Yamaha began pursuing a 500cc program triumph in 1973, on top of that as contending Suzuki. Yamaha acquired US rider "King" Kenny Roberts Sr. in the hopes of besting Suzuki, in which he won Grand Prix trophies for Yamaha three years running from 1978 to 1980. It had been the yellow No.1 YZR500 that brought Kenny Roberts their stunning 3rd triumph in 1980. The Yamaha YZR500 is powered by a four cylinder, two-stroke water-cooled 498cc motor mounted in a double loop, square area framework. Features including the deltabox framework and Yamaha energy Valve System (YPVS) assisted make it be perhaps one of the most successful bikes in over three decades of Grand Prix competition.
